RFil Basic Report Filtering Menu

On the above Basic Filtering Menu, you can select the report from a picklist, then select up to 6 fields to use in the filter. The above example uses the report "rptTestTabular" and filters by two of its fields, 'Amount' and 'City'. The Expression picklists (see image below) let you choose from common criteria expressions. The Value picklists let you chose from a list of values found in that field. After these choices are made, you can either 'Preview' the report with the filtering, 'Print' it directly, or just get a 'Count' of the matching records. The 'Reset' and 'Reset ALL' buttons on the left will clear the rows you've entered. The 'Use' checkbox lets you selectively apply the criteria rows you want to use.

Below is the field picklist on the Basic Filtering Menu - it will automatically show all fields available for the selected report.

RFil Advanced Filter Menu

The Advanced Filter Menu shown above is used to create and save powerful 'query-based' filters. You select a report from the picklist, and in the box below it, the current list of saved filters will appear. For these filters, you can 'Preview' the report with that filter, 'Print' the report directly, 'Edit', 'Delete','Copy', 'Rename', and create 'New' filters. You can also 'Count' the results of that filter (without having to open the report.)

There are other advanced options on this menu. On the lower left side, there is a series of buttons. They are for refreshing the list of reports and filters, an option to ignore any selected filter when running the report, and buttons for viewing the table of report information and to directly view the main query behind the report.  In the lower middle, the On Filter Double-Click setting lets you decide what should occur when you double-click on a filter. Then right of that is a button to initially populate the information about the reports in your database, which in turn fills the picklist of report names. The filter names starting characters are important for speeding up this menu, and it sets the default starting characters of the saved queries.

Here's how filters are edited - - the description continues below..

Does the 'Edit' view above look familiar? Its the regular query design window. In fact, all of the saved filters in RFil are actual queries, and you can use the full query design power of Access. This query is for the filter 'rf Minneapolis', which filters the rptMailingLabels report to show only Minneapolis addresses.

Back on the Menu, the 'Count' button will return the count of records in the selected filter. In this case, we have 5 addresses in Minneapolis.
